“Norman’s”

“The real name of the London café depicted in Norman’s is “Sherlock Holmes.” Intelligence officers from around the world stop here for dinner or drinks because it truly is “the place where nobody knows your name.” Ostrovsky completed this painting in 2001, a difficult time in his personal life. His dog of ten years – a Bouvier des Flandres named Stormin’ Norman Ostrovsky – was dying of prostate cancer and sat beside the artist each day as he painted. Norman died as the painting neared completion, so Ostrovsky changed the name of the restaurant to Norman’s and added a likeness of his faithful companion to the flag above the entrance.”
