“Merlin”
by: Gene & Rebecca Tobey$19,000.00
“On our Texas ranch, we were enchanted by the antics of a hawk family that lived in a dead tree. When the hawk youngsters were learning how to fly, their parents would take to the air with them and scream their calls across the countryside as they soared on thermal air currents. A hawk call is both chilling and thrilling.
Merlin was created from those experiences. The piece was created for both ceramic and bronze, thus the large feet. The drawings and carvings on its back represent the flying creatures or spirits that take to the air with hawk fledglings and bedevil their attempts to learn flight. The buffalos represent all of the herds that once roamed in Central Texas. The base includes bas-relief images.”– Rebecca Tobey – Excerpt from “Partners in Art”
