“Maasai Chorus”
by: Gene & Rebecca Tobey$3,500.00
“When we went to Kenya in October of 1991, we watched a group of Maasai men and women perform traditional dances at Samburu National Game Preserve. Gene captured the rhythms of their dance, which included the movement of the wide beaded collars that the women wear as they thrust their heads out, the men leaping into the air. The Maasai people, who have magnificent features and exotic dress and ornamentation, posses aloof yet quixotic personalities. They inspired us to create sculptures that embody all of what we felt about these people representing one of the last great tribes that ruled Africa.”
