“Ascending Deities”

“Ancient shamans had purpose in their quest for these sacred petroglyph sites. For the magic to work, a spiritual essence needed to be present within the rocks and around each site. Many rock art sites were chosen for the natural shapes within the rocks. Formations and anomalies such as cracks, crevices, and holes in the rock surface inspired the creation of certain symbols and shapes. The shaman knew that to the spirits the rock surface was a thin veil separating our world from theirs. Faded by time and shrouded in mystery, a quartet of figures silently emerge from an aperture in the rock. With hands and feet positioned as if in flight and images superimposed within their bodies, these etched apparitions must certainly command great spiritual powers. Their ethereal qualities are enhanced by the elaborate robes and headdresses made of clouds While the true purpose of the carefully etched geometric patterns are uncertain, they seem to add an air of importance to this place, possibly a celebration of an event in time. This could be contingent of shamans returning with gifts from the spirits, or a flight of ascending deities.”
