Diana Simpson

Diana Simpson’s life-like bronzes of Southwestern animals, both wild and domestic, bear witness to and intimate knowledge born of direct experience. Since the early 70’s, Diana Simpson has ridden her horses across the prairie around her home in Chino Valley, Arizona, and trailed deer and elk up into the mesas above Sycamore Canyon.

For the past decade, Diana has worked in a foundry making molds and waxes. Contact with the foundry’s well-known artists has combined her with her foundry work to provide an unparalleled apprenticeship in Western Art. Diana not only creates her original clays and makes her own molds and waxes, but she also does the metal finishing of chasing.

Of her sculpture, Diana says, “I have to feel strongly about my subject, to experience an intense attachment. When this feeling of identification happens, the sculpture comes alive.”
