Born in 1978, Cody Hooper grew up in North Texas and now lives and works in Austin, Texas. With a passion for art from a young age, Hooper was surrounded by art, music, and nature’s organic beauty to inspire his growing interest in fine art.

At just 11 years old, Hooper was given the opportunity to study under Southwest Watercolor Artist, Barbara Hughes, for five years which set his foundation as an artist while focusing primarily on realism and complex layering techniques, creating a method he still uses today. After many years of painting this way, Hooper moved forward in experimenting with abstracts in various mediums pushing him to expand his horizons and tap into new areas of painting still unexplored. With the freedom and personal expression that comes with abstract art, it was then that he truly began to flourish as a professional painter.

Hooper is deeply interested in the effects of color, texture, the emotional response to strong composition and design. He found that by removing the representational and creating something that told a story without an observational subject matter, was exciting and touched viewers in various ways.

Today, Hooper’s work is a bold mix of styles, ranging from sleek and contemporary to weathered and organic. Bringing a subtle sophisticated feel to his paintings through a unique balance of color, composition, depth and textures, his works are exhibited in the most prestigious galleries and featured in private and public collections worldwide.

“My primary goal when creating my abstracts is to breathe life into what I do… As you can always tell by my work, I like to create living emotion in my paintings, like a great song that gives you goosebumps. My wish is to make you want to keep coming back for more so that you can explore your own spirit, inspire who you are and what you want to become in this lifetime.” – Cody Hooper
